Health and Safety:

In the studio or on set it's important to maintain really good standard of hygiene and strict health and safety rules. I cannot stress this enough because it reflects on you as a person as well as a professional within the industry. I have included some pages from a book that I've found really helpful that teaches different methods for different occasions

You wouldn't want to receive a hair treatment in a dirty salon so it's important to think the same about make up applications. You might not have a studio and you could be on set up it's still important that the station is kept clean and tidy. This shows professionalism.

A few things to remember:

  • All rings, bracelets and bangles should be removed prior to starting an application.
  • Put a clean gown on the client
  • Wear black
  • Flat shoes
  • Wash hands frequently
  • Use disposable spoolies
  • Cut the end of a mascara wand off and use disposable wands
  • Use disposable lip brushes
  • Scrape out the product you need. Don't double dip into products as this is a prime cause of cross-contamination.
